Intro about me and my family | Introductions | Parents Forum

Hi there!  My name is Amy and my husband and I are parents of 3 children by birth and adoption.  Our sons are ages 8 and 9 (10 next month) and both have a mixed bag of diagnoses.  They came to us as foster children and we adopted them in '06, nearly 2 years after coming to live with us.  Our oldest has been diagnosed with RAD, ADHD and Mood Disorder NOS.  He has been in 4 treatment facilities, the last being a residential facility (as opposed to accute) for 7 months.  He's been back home with us for over a year and while we are going through a rough patch now (for about the last 3 1/2 weeks), he is definitely doing MUCH better and is on the mend.  Our youngest son, his bio brother, has been diagnosed with ADHD, Tourette's and RAD.  He is giving us the most trouble right now and it's likely because his brother has mellowed out so much.  Traumatic bonds between brothers make for the need to cause trauma to feel normal in the family.  Such joy!  We also have a shocker baby, a 2 year old biological daughter who is neuro-typical, thankfully.  I guess that's us in a shell.  We've been married 13 years and were married 6 before having children.  Some days we wish we could go back to easier times but we're commited to our children and eachother.
